Refyne

Restylane offers a line of hyaluronic acid-based fillers commonly used to help smooth facial wrinkles and plump lips and cheeks. Since hyaluronic acid naturally occurs in the skin, these injections help boost the skin’s elasticity by promoting the continued production of naturally occurring elements in the body. In addition, the Restylane line includes Refyne, which is used to treat wrinkles around the nose and mouth areas.

How Does Refyne Work?

Refyne uses an enhanced hyaluronic acid to provide smooth, flexible, and more natural-looking results. Using this filler helps increase the skin’s natural flexibility and reduces the appearance of facial wrinkles and lines. Smoother skin is accomplished through Refyne’s gel-like solution injected into folds and wrinkles surrounding the mouth and nose. Patients often see results right away as the filler plumps out the area, immediately smoothing out the skin.

Treatment Areas

Refyne targets the wrinkles and lines on the face around the nose down to the corners of the mouth. These are those lines created through the movement of the mouth, including when a person smiles. The filler helps smooth these lines, making a more youthful appearance around the nose and mouth areas.

Treatment Process

Refyne is a dermal filler, which is administered through a series of injections using a fine-gauge needle. The injection contains lidocaine, a local anesthetic, to help with the patient’s comfort level during the procedure. The number of injections depends upon the desired results and target surface area. The entire treatment should take less than one hour to perform and has little to no downtime following. Patients receive a list of instructions to follow to ensure the best results after treatment.

Treatment Procedure

Patients should receive Refyne treatment in a doctor’s office where local anesthesia is available. The entire procedure is less than one hour, and you are allowed to return home right after. In addition, recovery time is less than a day, allowing patients to return to work immediately.

Treatment Results

After receiving treatment, results vary by patient, but many patients claim to experience plumper cheeks and lips. Patients can also expect to see more refined lines and fewer facial wrinkles after treatment. Depending upon the patient, results can last anywhere between three and six months. Some patients have even claimed to see results last up to 12 months after receiving the injections.

Post-Treatment

There is minimal downtime after receiving a Refyne treatment. Common side effects should subside within a week or so. Patients should also limit their sun exposure during the following days to prevent additional swelling or bruising.

Side Effects

Refyne is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for those who are over 21 years of age. Though the procedure is safe to use, there are common side effects some patients experience. These side effects include bruising, swelling, pain, headaches, and itching.
To avoid serious side effects or complications, patients with any of the following should avoid undergoing a Refyne treatment:

  • Bacterial protein allergy
  • Immunocompromised
  • Currently taking blood thinners
  • Pregnant or breastfeeding

Cost

The final cost for a Refyne treatment depends on the number of vials used in the procedure. The price for most treatments averages between $275 and $700 but can go up based on the treatment area. Frequently Asked Questions

When you have younger skin, it was smooth and elastic. Much of this elasticity is a result of the hyaluronic acid in your skin, which makes the skin look healthy. Hyaluronic acid has a structured sort of like jello after it has set. However, as your skin ages, it loses the ability to produce this elastic material that keeps it looking young. Instead, your firm set jello starts to melt a bit. Another part of hyaluronic acid’s job is to bind water molecules inside the skin. This means that as your skin ages, it also becomes less able to hold water. The result is that your skin dries out, becomes thinner, and most importantly, can’t bring back its elastic texture. This lessening of your skin thickness also results in looser skin, which is the cause of wrinkling – and that aging appearance.

In the past few years, there have been several breakthroughs in research that now allow us to replace the hyaluronic acid in our skin. The same substance that is found in young skin is now made in a lab and can be stabilized so that its results will last longer. It is called “NASHA gel” for short – Non-Animal Derived Stabilized Hyaluronic Acid – a biodegradable gel. We are now able to replace what our skin has lost through aging in one quick office procedure – a completely non-surgical treatment.

One brand of hyaluronic acid, created by Galderma Company, is called Restylane, a “dermal filler.” When this dermal filler is injected into the soft tissue of your face, it restores the skin’s structure and hydration adds volume and gives it a more youthful, healthy appearance. Restylane is most useful being injected into places where the body’s natural skin structures have been broken down. This means that depressions in the skin – wrinkles – can be leveled out to match the rest of your facial skin. This effectively smooths out facial lines and even most scars, with a very natural look. Not only that, but the skin’s texture becomes softer, more elastic, and much more evenly toned.

You and our specialist will decide on the best course of treatment. Restylane will be injected straight into your skin in very small doses. The needle is extremely fine, and lidocaine in the serum ensures that there will be almost no discomfort. The whole procedure is quick and simple, and you will be able to see your results almost right away.

A single treatment of Restylane will fill any depression on the surface of your skin, and make your complexion look more youthful. These results will last for up to 9 months, but with a timed series of injections, can be extended up to 18 months.

The most common areas for Restylane to be used are:

  • Between your eyebrows
  • “Laugh Lines” (nasolabial fold), for a non-surgical nose job
  • The skin surrounding the mouth
  • The edge of the lip – helps define it
  • The skin on the jawline, for a non-surgical jowl lift.
  • Lip Enhancement: Get fuller lips, especially if your lips were thin, to begin with.
